If, like me, you live in Sandy Hill or drive through at rush hour prepare for the unexpected. Perhaps now I understand why last week lanes on Laurier eastbound got changed. You can no longer turn north on King Edward and next… plus the headline forecasts a nightmare! Yikes!

Yes it snowed all day…  And Molly & I left that office a couple of hours early as we looked at the snow pile up around the cars in parking lot and thought – hum will we be able to get out.  But once I arrived home after a close to normal commute I was surprised to read that it was record snowfall.  But looking at these pics does give evidence of that.  The people waiting to get into the bus is incredible then there’s Carrissa’s garden, car and eventually herself disappearing.

A moment to honour the lives and the stories that ended one hundred years ago with one of the worst fires this city has had.  A moment also to remember two individuals, one unsung, one more popularly remembered: first the librarian Alpheus Todd who insisted that steel doors be installed and Connie MacCormac who 100 years ago ordered them shut – thus safeguarding the amazing library we are familiar with to this day.

Nice to see these plans! I wonder what will be the outcome. Lebreton Flats is, as usual, the most controversial. If you haven’t been to the new Lansdowne Park you must. I wasn’t sure I liked it from Bank Street but once we drove in we were quite impressed.  Can’t wait to see the National Arts Centre – I do hope it’s a plus.  I’m often not a fan of changes to existing structures.  My favourite pet peeve (which has now been taken down) was the entrance to Place Bell.  Was a great building then they added that silly granite entrance which just didn’t fit.  I know someone who got tired of hearing that story – haven’t said it in a while better remind him just how much I dislike it.

Controversy in the Capital! Looks like controversy has moved from 24 Sussex directly to the Centre Block. The Centre Block will be undergoing some repairs – apparently, it will take 10 years! Wow! The debate is leave the scaffolding exposed similar to what happened on the West Block or create a 3D trompe-l’oeil tarp to cover the scaffolding. The cost of the tarp is apparently 1 million dollars but that is a fraction of the cost of the repairs. Seems to me that as the building that stands in the centre of the city, not only for tourists but for residents as well, it should be covered. We’re not talking about a 2 or 3-year project here but 10 years and those might be government years.
