Good news bad news. It’s fall; which is the prelude to that other season. But it is also the time of the year mother nature presents us with the most magical explosion of colour.

This year the Fall Rhapsody shuttle introduces a new stop in Lower Town at the ByWard Market: an alternate way to get to the ever-popular stops – Pink Lake, the Mackenzie King Estate, King Mountain, and the Champlain Lookout. With a 20 minute schedule its a great option to explore the colours presented in the Gatineau Park.

As I’ve possibly mentioned before my favourite route is to drive down Bank Street to the Saint Lawrence River. The vistas may not be as grand but I find the colours more varied.

And to me the best colours of fall are in my own neighbourhood – Sandy Hill.


A glimpse of the past!
Public Visitation for some of the first residents of Bytown

While digging the tunnel for the LRT the remains of 79 individuals were discovered. These early residents of Bytown were buried in Barrack Hill Cemetery located between Sparks, Elgin, Queen, and Metcalfe. This cemetery had been commissioned circa 1827 by Lieutenant Colonel John By. The remains will be relocated to the Beechwood Cemetery. Prior to that, visitation will be held on September 24 between 1pm and 3pm in the Resource Room of the Canadian Museum of History. Experts from the Paterson Group will be there answering questions. Molly has some: Who were they? What ages? Why were they missed? Were they buried deeper? Details here.

Construction of the pedestrian and cyclist bridge between Old Ottawa East and the Glebe has started.

The city says it’s multi-use not only because you can cycle, walk, or jog across it, it highlights multi-use activities you can do on either side of the canal. Says you can meet your friends for dinner on Main Street or you you can shop on Bank Street – I wonder if the reverse is supported or encouraged.

Once it’s up be wild, go against the current, and shop in Old Ottawa East, and eat in the Glebe. What else might you be coming from or going to!

The DND Effect

As pointed out in the City’s Annual Report yesterday the population of Ottawa is growing but that being said the growth is being most felt in the west of the city. The high tech hub and the DND move to Moodie Drive is creating a shift in the city. New DND employees are considering the west rather than the east.

Hunt Club, Windsor Park, Hintonburg, West Centretown, and Mooney’s Bay, Carleton Squre lead with the highest price increases. Read more here.
