With more people using bicycles this year, bike theft is on the rise 70%. The Ottawa Police Service has created a website 529 Garage where you can register your bicycle, read more about it here. Should your bike be stolen, once reported, a notice is sent out for others to be on the lookout. It also facilitates the bikes return to you should it be found.

This endeavour is in partnership with Citizens for Safe Cycling (Bike Ottawa) and Safer Roads Ottawa Program.

The city of Ottawa wants to impose new rules with regards short-term rentals such as Airbnb and VRBO. Only primary residences or cottages will be allowed, after applying for a permit. The goal is to disallow short-term rentals as a business. More information in this Ottawa Citizen article as well as on the City of Ottawa website itself.

COVID-19 Update

• To date, more than 49,000 doses of vaccines have been administered in Ottawa.
• Starting Friday, March 5, pop-up clinics will open in select communities experiencing higher rates of COVID-19 transmission. Locations, hours of operation, and booking information will be available on Monday, March 1. Only residents born in or before 1941 or who are receiving chronic home care services, who live in the identified communities will be able to book an appointment. Eligible residents will be able to book COVID-19 appointments next week. Residents should not call Ottawa Public Health or 311, as no appointments can be booked until then.

I attended the Mayor’s virtual Breakfast on Thursday morning. They had great speakers! The host was Adrian Harewood of CBC News Ottawa, the interviewees were Rev. Dr. Anthony Bailey of the Parkdale United Church, Solange Tuyisshime of Elevate International, and Jock Climie of Emond Harnden LLP.
