Most Popular TV Shows for Interior Inspiration
Apartment Therapy presents the findings by money.co.uk as to which TV shows provide the most design influence. Turns out The Brady Bunch was number 1. Followed by Mad Men and Downton Abbey. Of course, a house whose father is an architect would be significant – but how many years later!!! Who participated in this survey? Is that TV show still airing? Oh so many questions! Mad Men, that makes sense – we’re very much into mid-century modern so yes to that. Downton Abbey: love that, but would really like to see who is using that as in inspiration and were they successful. Which Canadian Interior Designer Are You?
It’s a bit chilly out there. Having enjoyed the 15°C, -13°C feels quite cold. I found this great little quiz on Realtor.ca. The questions are enumerated below – click here to do the quiz. Let me know who you are as a designer?
What word best describes your style?
What piece of décor do you think really finishes off a room?
What best describes your personality?
What is your favourite room in the house?
Pick a Canadian city to live in.
How often do you redecorate?
Stunning Redesign of a Duplex in New York
I love the look of these rooms. I grant you this apartment is on Park Avenue and it may be slightly above most budgets, but it’s the freshness and the colour I’m enjoying. The look is achieved mostly with the colour of the furniture, the drapes and the art. Personally, I could have done without the quasi-turquoise dining room, nevertheless.

24 Clever Home Renovation Ideas
Homeaddict.io presents 24 clever home renovation ideas. Some of these ideas are more extravagant than others, some are more doable, but all are amazing. I quite like the changing colour tiles. As for the garage lift, dramatic as it may be, it may not be suited to this climate! Some of the other ideas are great additions, others require extensive renovations, and some need to be considered before building.
30 Fabulous Finished Basements
Homeaddict.io, my new go to website for home ideas it seems presents “30 Fabulous Finished Basement Ideas”. And some of them really are great! Love the bowling alley; I’ve seen some basements that could do that. The pool is quite the idea – though I can’t quite imagine the effort, and the cost of course is high. I’d also be concerned the humidity caused by adding a building a pool in a space that was not designed for one, but hey if you have that kind of money you can have someone figure it out.
My absolute favourite is the village storefronts!
A word of advice here: if the goal is to have fun and you plan on being in your house for a long time do what you want, knock yourself out. If however, the goal is to increase the value of your home you may want to design something more timeless that can suit a broader audience; for instance, I’d avoid the very woody gym featured in 14 as expensive as it likely was would not please everyone.
35 Home Library Ideas
As we complete our 6th week of isolation I propose we virtually escape in these fabulous libraries proposed by Architectural Digest. Some are admittedly for a rather large Beverly Hills style home, but some are more doable. A few are to me too modern for my taste but others are more traditional. The “Soaring Wood Shelves” is a great room. I also like the “Library That Does Double Duty”. The “Double-Height Penthouse Library” is quite the room, I could definitely lounge there. I`d probably be very comfortable working at the desk in the “A Traditional Mahogany-Paneled Study”. I also like the “An Alluring Library Ladder” but I might want to change the colour of the walls. The “Sophisticated Storage” room is quite quite nice. Where would you retreat?
