I miss Fines Flowers. They had such a great greenhouse. As I think of two of the florists left I think one has a very small selection in a vast space the other has a very large attitude. My favourite of late is the Canadian Tire on Carling. Seems one the managers there loves to buy plants and so for the price of a song you can walk out with a great selection.

Indoor Plants

Now that my fourth favourite season is upon us let us turn our attention away from what is going on out there and look within. Let`s look at our indoor plants for that is where green will be for a little while. Here some suggestions on how to best care for your plants during the winter months. For me the easiest to care for is the heart leaf philadendron and the worst is english ivy. I’m good with plants but I need plants that are understanding if I forget them 1 or 2 days. English ivy does not forgive, once it goes down it`s not coming back up.

Ottawa Firefighters Rescue Senior Citizen

Seeing a classic office person at the top of a ladder in a TV show last night reminded that this is perhaps the time to remind everyone: DON’T!

Found this article from a month or so in The Ottawa Citizen about firefighters being sent to rescue a senior citizen who had found himself on the roof and uneasy coming down.

I always warn against going up there! Get a professional! Its’ quite easy to fall and no matter your age, injure yourself!.

Ardeth’s Tree – Dominion Arboretum

Good news for tree lovers and in this case one of the city’s most iconic tree’s. During the September 27 storm Ardeth’s tree, in the Dominion Arboretum was badly damaged. But being an iconic tree in the Arboretum means you will have experts looking after you promptly. And experts have pronounced themselves – the tree will survive. Perhaps it will have lost it’s beautiful symmetry, perhaps it will be scarred, but survive it will. I feel a song coming on better stop now!
