Inuit Artist Installation at Ottawa Hospital

Suvuniksattinu – A 17-foot glass and wood kayak by Kaajuk Kablalik an Inuit artist based in Almonte has found it’s permanent home in the entrance of the Ottawa Hospital. The glass panels depict the history of the Inuit people.

Shades of Blue…

On a completely different subject, I am really enjoying the 1001 shades of blue cars out there. Seems not so long ago black, white, silver, and the occasional red car dominated the landscape, but now the streets are a colourful place to be. Although I’ve never been a huge fan of the colour brown I am finding the browns amusing as well. Then for an extra punch there are the loud bold colours, which seem to get louder every day!

That being said, other than one black car, which though gorgeous, keeping clean was a relationship, I’ve had silver, gold, and bronze, and I quite like those shades of metal.

So the nominations have been announced. Roma is in the lead! I have to tell you it’s my favourite evening of the year. When I hear people complaining about the duration of the broadcast I scratch my head – as I’d want it to go one longer. Well all of that being said check out the nominations and get yourself to the cinema so we can all watch together and be in the know.

Trinity Development / Enriched Bread Artists Studios

Progress is good, intensification is good… but the displacement of more than 100 artists is not good.

The 3 towers proposed by Trinity Development will displace approximately 100 artists. These are very early days as the application has only recently been filed with the city. But perhaps these are the days to awaken public awareness.

This development will displace The Enriched Bread Artists as well as The Loft Art Studios. Earlier the widening of the Queensway had relocated Gallery 101 and Platform Gallery (some of these artists had relocated accross the street).

In addition to EBA and Loft Art Studios there are ceramic, glass, and furniture artists as well musicians – all will be displaced.

What can be done to keep this arts community within the community?
