Architect – Arata Isozaki
Arata Isozaki was born in 1931 in Oita, Japan. After studying architecture and engineering, Isozaki obtained a doctorate in architecture from the University of Tokyo. He was initially influenced by the new Brutalism style and Metabolist Architecture, however his style became more modern with a futurist approach. Arata Isozaki has just been awarded the 2019 Pritzer Architecture Prize considered the Nobel Prize of architecture. [Read more…]
Architecture – NYC’s Most Iconic Addresses
First, while helping clients clear out their apartment I pulled out of the get rid of pile a chess set and found all the pieces to be white making me think of Yoko Ono’s White Chess Set. Then, Saturday evening went to see REVOLUTION: The Beatles Symphonic Experience. These two Beatles related incidents lead me to think of John Lennon being shot in front of his home, The Dakota Apartments. And that led me to think of the most prestigious addresses of NYC. So here we are! The most exclusive addresses in one of the most exclusive cities in the US and possibly the world. And so not for the faint of heart. Most of these coops have very stringent rules. Not everyone gets in. No matter who you are! Sorry, Madona! They often have a no mortgage rule and you should demonstrate a healthy balance in your bank account even after paying for the apartment.

Architect – Oscar Niemeyer
Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida Niemeyer Soares Filho, the king of the curve, was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1907. His work on reinforced concrete is considered very important as is his influence on modern architecture. He has stated being influenced by Le Corbusier but not limited by him. The 1940s and 1950s were his most prolific years. The National Congress of Brazil, the Cathedral of Brasilia, the Palacio da Alvorada, the Palacio do Planato, and the Supreme Federal Court were designed at the request of Juscelino Kubitschek then President for the new capital. Due to political unrest Niemeyer left Brazil in the mid 60s. Upon his return in 1988 he was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Price. In 2012 he died at 104, with approximately 600 projects to his credit. [Read more…]
