Fumihiko Maki was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1928. Maki studied at the University of Tokyo and the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills in Michigan. Sverre Fehn was a Norwegian architect. He was born in Fuskerud, Norway in 1924. He died in Oslo in 2009. He studied at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. Fehn is considered one of Norway’s most gifted architects; he was a modernist. He was the recipient of the Pritzker prize in 1997.

“Heritage Ottawa, in collaboration with the Friends of the Château Laurier and Carleton University, invites you to a special Urban Forum event on September 5, 2019”

The presentation by professors and students of architecture will be held Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Carleton University.

On a different but similar note Heritage Ottawa is proud to state that they have collected $65,000 of the $150,000 goal required to help fight for the Chateau Laurier.

Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron are Swiss architects. Both studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. They are visiting professors at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. In 1978 they formed HdM. In 2001 they were the recipients of the Pritzker Prize.

The Pritzer jury stated “The architecture of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron combines the artistry of an age-old profession with the fresh approach of a new century’s technical capabilities. Both architects’ roots in European tradition are combined with current technology in extraordinarily inventive architectural solutions to their clients’ needs that range from a modest switching station for trains to an entirely new approach to the design of a winery.”

I really like the intricacy of their work. The texture. The look of lace – reimagined modern lace.

In honour of the Pride Festival I thought I’ve put together a snapshot of LGBTQ architects. As I write this I’m a little torn because there’s a side of me who thinks gay or straight should ultimately not matter; but of course as community members to look up to, they do matter.
