Street Art – West Centre Town / Chinatown / Nanny Goat Hill
The sculptures that were recently installed in Chinatown have been damaged or stolen. It took a few days to see this in the news but now details are on CBC, CTV, and the Ottawa Citizen.
It’s very sad! What is at the origin of vandalism? Who does it, and why? So disappointing! $200,000 was spent on these and they were here so few months. Of course when they went up I thought “Oh oh how long will these last”. Seems my concern was justified. But sad that I would even have that thought.
Are all cities the same? Countries?
A part of me wants the city to replace those that were damaged or stolen – but how long will they last? Alternatively leave the reduced groups in place – I guess, but it seems sad. Take them away – could be but not a great option.
What are your thoughts? What can be done? Why can we not have street art?
