Shoes on? Shoes off?
Westerns are not necessarily used to removing shoes in houses. In Asia, it is totally normal, more so in some countries than others. That being said nowadays it’s best to ask what the homeowner’s preference is. Of course, I could add that in winter boots obviously come off and if you’re coming in from the rain with wet shoes they come off too. I do remember, so many moons ago, a friend coming into my home in winter and without thought stomping right into the living room.
I like this list of rules. To me the most important ones is: ask! The don’t step on bathmats rule I’d never heard – makes sense.
As Realtors when previewing a home or showing a home shoes automatically come off, unless it’s a vacant property that looks neglected.
