After extensive renovations, the NCC River House is now open, providing a new spot to swim in the Ottawa River. Additional details in CTVNews blog post.
Highrise Megaprojects that could reshape Ottawa’s skyline
Back in the day when the LRT was but a plan I remember it being said that construction would happen along the LRT line. Well as presented in a blog post by the CBC that seems to be more now in the works. More than a dozen multi tower projects are being proposed.
The article goes on to state that though there is often objections to the proposal of towers they can have a positive impact to the community. I have heard of this from residents of Vanier near 70 or 90 Landry – stating that the area did not seem safe to walk in at night in the past but with a changed demographic from the additional residents in the towers the area was improved.

Architecture – Barbie Dreamhouse
I went to see the Barbie movie last Thursday. A friend had suggested it, we thought it would be silly fun. Well turns out Barbie is having an existential crisis. The film addresses men and women’s roles and interaction in society. Everyone I know who has seen it has said – I think I need to see that again.
And so I think it appropriate this week to visit the various Barbie Dreamhouses over time.
Barbie Dreamhouse was introduced in 1962, 3 years after Barbie came on the scene. Over time a cardboard bedroom became a townhouse, an A-frame, and a McMansion.

Giant Hogweed
I read something yesterday that says giant hogweed is spreading in Ottawa. Do be careful if you encounter any, it can cause burns, temporary or permanent blindness. Report it to the City of Ottawa. It seems a bit tricky to identify so here is a link from Ontario.ca and one from Nova Scotia that compare it to similar plants.
