So Orlando gives us his tips on how to choose the right wall colour. My tip: call your favourite designer! Mine is fabulous, strong-willed, and argumentative. 3 examples. According to the look we wanted for a particular house when we said we wanted grey walls, she chose a warm grey for this 2 storey living room. We went along. Then would look at the colour swatch and say we don’t like it. Another friend came by and said that’s not nice! We called her back, another bottle of wine later, and much arguing she said this is the right colour for this room for the efect you want – the gray you like will not work in this room. “Shut up and and paint!”. And so I did! It was a muddy gray a far cry from the bluish grey we wanted. Once everything was done it was AMAZING! Then we recommended to her a couple of friends, one was willing to go along with what was being proposed the other not so much. I interved and said there’s no point arguing with Lynn just go along with it, it will be good. It was! Another time the outside of freehold townhouse needed to be painted (we were 1 of 8). We said we’re going on vacation let Lynn choose the colour she wants no point me trying to argue. We go, we come back to an odd grey sample on one wall. I check in with the neighbours and say that’s not nice. Lynn chose that? No we did it ourselves! One neighbour claimed that as a diplomatic spouce she could now choose colour (not sure how that skill comes (it never happened to me)). So we call Lynn! She picks a colour everyone is iffy about I say go with it, it must be correct. And, once done a 1980s Barry Hobin infill was perfectly integrated into a victorian neighbourhood.
So if you think you have what it takes to interpret a 1 inch square sample to a wall or a room – go for it. It you don’t mind accepting the results with a shrug of the shoulders go ahead otherwise call a designed.
