Chateau Laurier expansion
Take 3
Version 1 was truly hated. Version 2 didn’t seem very different and so was received similarly. This expansion sparked talk about additions to classical buildings but that has been done successfully in other buildings. Historians and other architects gave their opinion.
And now we have version 3 a glassier version of 1 and 2. It’s also a bit smaller and pushed away from the Chateau itself. I can’t say I’m feeling it. I would like to see a similar size similar design done in glass. Perhaps with a copper or even glass chateauesque style roof. Heritage Ottawa have posted news of version 3 on their site but I’m unclear as to their sentiment about it.
I’ve just read Peter Coffman of Carleton University’s blog. Do read it!
