Architecture – Rentable Luxury
Typically we look at architecture which we can only dream off living in. But this week let’s look at homes that are available to live in if only for brief periods of time. Rentable luxury!
My goal is not to promote airbnb and other short-term rental organizations but more to promote the fact that not being able to afford to purchase some of these amazing homes we contemplate does not necessarily have to deny us the experience – not completly.
My favourite is Costaguti Palazzo in Rome. The combination of classical detail with contemporary furniture is fantastic. I’d need to round up a few friends to rent it all out. Of course that can be the case of a few of these.
Click the title above each pair of pics if you wish more detail. At times finding more info on the architecture of the properties was challenging as the rentable aspect took over the Google search.

Self-Driving Fridge
Yes you read that properly! A fridge that comes when you call it. Handy? Well if sick in bed – I suppose. If too lazy to get up from the sofa – I suppose.
Panasonic says it will be voice activated “Hi Ku come to the dining room table”. It will also be able to avoid children or pets that happen to be on its path. Beyond that, at this point, I don’t know. Is this something you’ve been waiting for and one day will say “How did I ever live without this?” Wow! I’m still part in awe and part horrified! For now it’s only a prototype, but it could be available in 5 to 6 years. Until then you’ll have to get your snack or drink yourself!
12-Foot Wide Bed
A 12-foot wide bed to save your marriage they say! Wow!
Well, I suppose if you’ve got several children and a couple of dogs this can be true. It might be true for the toss and turn as well. I’ve had a king sized bed once and did not find it conducive to a good relationship as it creates an ocean of distance
From a real estate point of view, I must say not a lot of homes today can accommodate this. Even king beds are challenging!

30-Year Mortgage Amortizations
Seems the typical 25 year amortization period is being replaced with the 30 year period. This reduces your payments but also slows down the accumulation of equity and increases the total interest paid. Though an option you should weigh the pros and cons and discuss with your mortgage broker to be sure to make an enlightened decision.
Stephen Wilkes – Time Lapse Photo – Canada 150
This single photo by Stephen Wilkes wilkes captures 20 hours of the same immage. True the festivities on the Hill this year were fraught with chaos but this one photo capturing 20 hours of of festivities is magic. You may read more about the photo here and more about Stephen Wilkes here. Seems like the real fun is looking at details in a large pic which I could not find possibly for copywright reasons.
Abstract: The Art of Design
Last night I stumbled onto this Netflix series Abstract: the Art of Design. Have you seen any of it? I’ve not yet! The premise is interesting each episode delves into a different design aspect: illustration, footwear design, stage design, architecture. Being a lover of all forms of design I will be definitely be watching this. You can also read more in ELLE magazine.
