Beechwood Cemetery Walking Tours
On this, one of the most famous week-ends for exploring Ottawa: Doors Open, lets talk about another type of exploring for another day, walking tours of Beechwood Cemetery.
Cemeteries are indeed interesting places to visit. The Beechwood Cemetery is quite lovely and of course filled with history.
Many years ago in Paris I visited the Cimetière du Père Lachaise, where Chopin, Balzac, Molière, Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and so many others are burried.
Another time I visited the Catacombs of Paris. Walking down, down, down, and seeing nothing made think: been had. Then a doorway “You are entering the kingdom of death”, and then there it is – one of the most impressive sites I`ve ever seen.
Then of course there was the time I was in a relationship with a historian. Driving along and suddenly a cemetery. Stop!
But back to Beechwood. I do like the way it is laid out. The winding alleys, the tall trees. The cemetery reveals the history of the Irish, the Scots, the Chinese. I had no idea they had these regular walking tours.
