Architecture – Guédelon Castle
This project is in Treigny France. The object is to build in the 21st century a castle in the same manner as it would have in the 13th century, using only period construction techniques, tools, materials. Construction started in 1997 and will be completed in 2023. The goals can be categorized as follows: tourism, education, science and technology, human, and social.
The castle is styled after a French medieval chateau-fort of the 13th century.
The project is part science part archaeology. It consists of a team of 70 with 40 active on site. It is a return to history where every stone is carved, and every piece of wood is felled by hand.
