Next in our list of architects named in Arch Daily’s list of The 25 Tallest Buildings in the World is Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill (AS+GG). AS+GG is an architecture firm based in Chicago. The company was founded by Adrain Smith, Gordon Gill, and Robert Forest all formerly of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill – SOM.
AS+GG believes in energy-efficient and sustainable architecture. “We’re now trying to design a building as a vehicle, or a vessel, that uses less energy and also mines the free energy that’s available,” as Smith explained in an interview with architectural historian Judith Dupré, “and that’s creating a new aesthetic for us.”Their designs are for varied types of projects, but typically large, and for an international clientele. Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture was chosen over SOM, Norman Foster, Atkins, and Helmut Jahn for the design of the Masdar City Headquarters in the United Aram Emirates. Masdar City is to be a zero-energy, zero-carbon, zero-waste city.
