Architect – James Wyatt
James Wyatt (1746-1813) was born in Weeford, England. In the late 18th century he spent six years in Italy. He studied with Antonio Visentini and studied St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. He was selected to build the now-demolished Pantheon or Winter Ranelagh in London. This building was such a success that it gave him instant recognition. With the success of the Pantheon, everyone came calling. When it was rumored that he was to go and work with Catherine II in Russia a retainer was offered.
