Tarrianna House, located in New Caan, Connecticut is for sale. I was not familiar with this one. I’d never even seen pics before. Perhaps because it’s been in private hands.
Good news is it was listed at $8,000,000 and has come down to $7,200,000. Bad news is the taxes are $46,872 per year.
Built quite late in his career in 1955 (Wright would have been in his late 80s) the property sits above a waterfall and is surrounded by 15 acres of forested land. It is adjacent to the Noroton River.
And it is stunning!
Noroton River.
Can’t quite wrap my head around the sitting room with the stripped sofa and the Eames chairs.
Love this sitting room, or is it the music room.
The courtyard is fantastic! Some of it is covered by skylights, some open to the sky.
I’m not sure how I feel about the dining room. Seems like a table in the middle of a very large space, without an anchor. Feels almost cafeteria like – well you know.
The kitchen is stunning! Of course those who know me know that I wont be spending a lot of time there – except to keep the chef company.
There’s an office with cinder block walls and another Eames chair – its quite nice.
The bedroom is quite serene. The home has more wood than we’re used to currently but I think the contrasting walls and choice of furniture keep it current.
Either bathrooms are good.
There’s an office with what looks like a rust coloured desk facing windows. I think I like it best. If I use all 3 desks I’ll use this one for my favourite task, or no perhaps my least favourite task.
And another office with a narrow desk under the windows.
The corridor along the courtyard is great.
I can see myself playing in the greenhouse, caring for this plant, and replanting others.
The gardens were designed by Frank Okamura and Charles Meddeleer. I thought I could sense a Japanesse spirit.
And then there’s the trees at the water’s edge and the pool.
Then there’s this covered walkway.
The sculptures are stunning! These women seem very empowered. Perhaps appropriate considering the events of the week.
For those who still haven’t quite gotten enough – this gallery contains other pics of the tour. Enjoy!
