Architect – Moon Hoon
Moon Hoon is a Korean architect. Born in 1968 in Sangdong Gangwon-do, he spent a part of his youth in Australia. He studied architecture in Korea and in the US at MIT. In 2001 he created his own firm – MoonBal-Sso. He enjoys breaking away from traditional architectural expectations. His most important works are Rock It Suda, S-Mahal, Mookdong Multi House, Ongdalsam, and the Sangsang Museum.
It’s when you look at the work of this architect that you realize we in Canada, or perhaps we in Ottawa really are conservative. I’d love the see the neighbourhood’s reaction, and the city’s reaction to a proposal such as the Lollipop house in Sandy Hill, New Edinburgh or The Glebe. Those fireworks would be fun to watch! As I’ve said before an infil house should be of its time, it should not reproduce a victorian style home. For me its about volume.
