Starchitect – Mimar Sinan
Let us travel to another time today – the 16th century. Mimar Sinan really was starchitect. He was responsible for over 300 structures, many that endure to this day. Sinan was born in Kayseri, Turkey in 1490, he died in 1588. He was the most celebrated architect of the Ottoman Empire. The Selimiye Mosque in Edirne is considered his masterpiece the Suleiman Mosque in Istanbul his most famous.
When working in Turkey I had the pleasure of visiting the Cemberlitas Baths. It was evening and very quiet, the attendant soaped me up, rinced me up, threw me into the sauna, then another rince, a scrup, and a final wash. Afterwards I was as soft as baby. The next day when I jumped into my own shower and realized I had to wash myself it was quite disconcerting.
