I am seeing more and more freestanding clothes racks in small apartments. What apartment therapy proposes are valid alternatives but in these pics the colours and shapes and sizes of clothes are quite similar, when reality sets in it can easily look messy. Perhaps the answer is to choose what is put on the rack and what goes in the closet.
