Tear down an existing heritage building to build a replica more in keeping with downtown’s heritage. Hum! Must have read that wrong!
Every few months a new drama or a new story emerges with regards to Somerset House. In March 2017 there was the redevelopment plan. In September the city realized the developer was perhaps not going along with his plan. What next? Oh yes, the replica building. I won’t be surprised to read someday soon that the building has completely collapsed, accidentally, of course. I’ll be disappointed, yes; but this is Ottawa after all so surprised, no.
Heritage Ottawa is opposed to demolition-by-neglect.
